what's around this time of year

hey guys i just got into the sport at the end of summer last year didnt catch anything but had fun down in point pleasant. my question is since i want to get an early start and start going down to the inlet in the next week or so what kind of fish are out there at this time. also would i be better off staying near the wall (right acroos from alex's bait shop) or all the way out to the end on the rocks . thanks

You can try by the monument for winter flounder. If they are on their way out they would have to pass this way.

In a week or two I would think blues and bass should be starting.

You can also try the wall for some sea bass, but it might still be a little early?

There were reports of sea bass caught at the north jetty on IBSP so I would imagine that they should be up there as well.  If you go you might want to try the north side of the north jetty up there.

What's a winter flounder? :P  ;)

 whs With the water warming and the full moon coming you should see a ton of hot and heavy bluefish action soon as they invade the inlets! t^

Yepper, on the bluefish.  It is always around Mothers Day (May 10th) for the Barnegat Inlet on average.  With this warm spell we just had it might be a little sooner.  We will see if the rain predicted will cool off the waters enough to keep them at bay till then.
