Trailer Spare
« on: April 21, 2009, 06:38:47 PM »
I know that I have been pressing my luck by towing my boat without a spare tire. After reading stats from Sea Tow, the #1 roadside service call is for a flat tire.(#2 is wheel bearings).
I stopped in Boaters World, as everyone knows by now, Ritz Camera, the parent company has filed chapter 11, and , after not being able to find a buyer for the Boaters World division, has decided to liquidate the assets to gain some capital. Their loss is our gain. I was able to get an ST 205/57 D 14 (F78 14) , mounted on a galvanized, spoked rim for $127, and a Shipshape spare tire carrier for $30. Mounted it on the trailer, the carrier has a 5" lift for clearance, and I like the fit. I've been told I need a Tire Lock, but I've got the Tire GLock, but you need to actually be in the parking lot for it to be effective. I might just get the lock. <'((((><

Looks good but looking at the picture it looks like the clamps should be crossed or is it that you had to modify it to fit your trailer?  Check the bumps in the clamps that are meant to cross over the one below it.?.

You are correct in that the U Bolts set up in different configurations to fit different size trailer frames. Mine is 4" and this is the set up that fits the frame. Thaks for looking out Paul. TT^ <'((((><

Watch your prices at Boater's World. Do your homework. I've been told they are jacking prices up to mark them down. That same tire/rim assembly was just quoted to me for $95 from Camp Marine. I would think I might be able to retail that even cheaper.
Spares are a great thing and should be carried along with a complete spare hub/bearing[fully greased] ready to install.
Remember anything you see at West, Boater's World, Consumer's Marine etc can be ordered from me with usually a substantial savings.

I priced spares for a while, cheaper prices were available, but shipping charges were high. A local tire dealer here in Brick was unable to get this tire/rim combo and WM was almost $200. The Tire Carrier for $30 is still a good deal. I do agree the BW does inflate some item prices to mark them "down", I have seen markdown prices twice the price as everywhere else!  I will keep you in mind Maritime Matt for some of my other pricier items I have planned. Thanks. <'((((><
