Saturday 5/16 AM Trip. Results.
« on: May 16, 2009, 02:30:26 PM »
Fished with my son and his buddy this morning.
In very foggy weather, with visability less than 150 yards most of the time.Fog and look outs where the key words.
On the way,saw no bunker, but I was armed with clams, so we figured we give it a shot.
Immediately saw birds working and jigged blues that were very deep (kept a few for fish cakes and grill).
The Fog got so thick I could hardly see my son on the bow while he was working the anchor.
Set up and chummed and had two shorts in no time, now the current was moving and so was the damp wind out of the South East. Joined by maybe 4 other boats (total) as visability still remained very poor at less than 100 yards.
Saw one boat tied to a bouy WTF.They did not need help.So I moved on.
Finished the day at 12:30 with three shorts(realeased) and jigged blues for the grill.
Had the short pleasure to speak with Hunter 2 Eddie, I think he was bailing them and up to his knees in fish.
Cleaned up,had a cold  one on the dock with the boys.  Stay well, AJ.     chrz

Nice report and catch!  If you don't mind me asking, how do you cook the blues?  I've heard a couple different things such as soaking the fillets in milk overnight and also covering the fillets with mayo before cooking???   5hrug

Striper, If cooking on the grill I fillet and  wrap in tin foil with onions, salt pepper or spice to taste for no more than 10 minutes
For cakes: soak in milk (doing it right now)and make some mashed potatoes, salt pepper, onions, celery ,bread crumb and bake of fry. Make your pattys.  A La Peggy Lee.
Uncle Luna has a good recipe too. Enjoy,  AJ.

Quick way to make bluefish,
Large frying pan with cover
Dice up 1 large onion
put some olive oil in pan and heat
add the onion and saute a few minutes
put as many fillets that will fit
sprinkle with old bay seasoning
dice 1 large tomato, and put over the fillets
sprinkle with oregano or italian seasoning
add 2 tablespoons capers and optional pitted olives about 1/2 jar
cover and simmer 10 to 15 minutes or until fillets
are done

Enjoy Uncle Luna
