Made the Sea Hawk 7-2 trip today....got there early to try and sibiki up a few tinkers, but they were not in the area today....did manage to snag a rainfish and a couple of very small herring, which went into the bait bucket.
Greeted by a stiff south east wind and overcast sky and accompanied by about 25 anglers.
Started out in the back bay area in the Keyport flats are where the action was fast and furious, however most were shorts.....very high short to keeper ratio....most mainly dragged bait or Gulp? today as conditions did not favor bucktailing, although I did give it a couple of tries.
We worked our way over to the Flynns Knoll area where the current made it a bit tough to fish....Capt Mike put us back into the calmer waters of the bay for a bit, but the bite was not there...made a bee line back to where we started and the bite picked up considerably.
I didn't manage a keeper today, nor did my foursome, but I must have had 20 or so shorts,....some a real shame to put back....Oh well, at least we could fish for supper compared to our poor NY neighbors who are shut out until their split season resumes in July
.
Pool fish went about 3 lbs, and about 25 keepers were managed today....not bad considering the conditions.....nice to get out and enjoy the day.
Back to the dock about 2:20PM
