Question about a lure.
« on: June 22, 2009, 05:40:37 PM »
Alright, so I ordered a Viper Spoon. Here is a picture of the exact one that I ordered.

Its the center one, with no fair, and only 2 hooks.

It was 8$ from bass pro shops, but I heard it was good for fluke fishing ? Now this spoon is about 2 3/4" in length. it has 2 yellow beads under it, and 3 red beads, then it has a titanium line about 2 inches long, with 2 hooks on it. The hooks are very small, only about maybe 7/16" to 1/2" inch from point to bar. It doesnt look like I can change the hook either. Are those hooks to small for fluke ? I mean I can put a squid strip on bottom hook and maybe a killie or spearing on top hook ?

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

The body looks very similar to a crippled herring jig. Crippled herring jig is much cheaper to buy.

Looking at the link you posted you may be able to remove the hooks and tie on a larger hook to the eye at the rear of the jig. You can also add the feathers/spinners etc.

I would just take a look at the crippled herring jig to see how much of a difference there is. They do come with hooks. This link is just to show the shape, etc.

by the looks of it a std bucktail will be easier to make swim naturally- looks like those use more of an up-down jigging motion prolly catch blues

but give it a shot- at $8 pretty pricey IMO but maybe it's the new havetahave

always good to keep trying new things it's the only way to find what DOESN'T work

Yeah Joe, it does look like that. We will see how it works this sunday. I already have it on my rod, changed the hook to a larger single for fluke. Long squid strip and a killie, lets see how the action goes. I hope its the new HAVETAHAVE chrz

That looks like a good jig for bass&blues.

When most refer to a bucktail for fluke, they're talking about these styles.
