Headed out with my co-worker today for his first run this year after putting the boat in yesterday morning. Decided not to go out in my boat for its shakedown run and chance the long drive home from Toms River on the Parkway.
Broke the inlet into the bay around 900 and after getting up on plane for 2 minutes, the motor bogged down and stalled. A quick survey found some water in the fuel, changed filters and tried to run the crappy gas out. Finally got it to run worth a damn and aimed back in to top off the tanks with fresh gas and regroup.
Broke the inlet around 1030 and after 4 minutes of being on plane, bogged and stalled. Changed filters again and drained the bowls on each carb. Finally it seemed to clear up but we both agreed to stay close to home.
Set up east of the triangle and put out clams and bunker chunks. Nothing but a few taps and 3 or 4 runoffs for a while and then Al hooked up on a small blue. That was it for the rest of the day. Trolled some Stretch 25's for a bit and aimed back in.
No bunker, no birds, no nuthin.
Hopefully we'll get out this week.
