Fluka Brasi's long weekend
« on: June 29, 2009, 01:43:48 PM »
Took off Thursday and Friday to try to make up for lost time and a late start.. Met my buds Ross and Dennis at the marina in Keansburg thurs am, and shoved Fluka out of the slip by 7:15 on a low tide. Made a couple of quick stops in the Reach, and around the Hook, but only managed a slow pick of shorts.. Got a call from Rick (DieselHP) who was out  front off the beaches and reporting a steady pick. Thanks for the call buddy!   TT^  After a bit we moved out there, and we too enjoyed a steady pull of shorts the rest of the day, with a keeper every once in a while to make it interesting.. Had the pleasure of seeing  Kez about midday, who reported several nice flukes and a Striper in the box, but never spotted Dieselhp.. sorry we missed ya out there Rick.. Headed back to the dock about 5pm with 4 keeper fluke out of about 40-50.. and a ton of laughs with the boys. The plan for friday was for my bud Dave to take off and join me.. However with the forecast the night before calling for severe t-storms, he opted to not waste a day off on the possiblity of a short day, so I did some needed work /organizing on the boat and tackle.. The highlight Friday was the seafood feast Ross threw down for us in the evening, with fresh caught Fluke, shrimp, and sweet Jersey clams  ;D. Saturday, Brother Rob came down and joined Dave and I .. we started where we left off thursday, drifting from "bananna beach"  cfzd up toward the rips.. However with the party boats and the rest of the fleet pounding the area, we only managed a pick of shorts, and no keepers, so we headed for greener pastures.. Made a few stops on rough bottoms/slopes to the south, picking at short fluke, and a few birds and skates, and finally ended up near the reef.. We enjoyed a steady pick drifting there the rest of the day with flukes , seabass and a couple ling coming steadily over the gunwales..  Hot ticket with the soft drift was 2oz Spro, with a gulp shrimp teaser, which the seabass really slammed. Ended the day with only 2 nice fluke in the box, but about 8-10  nice C-biscuits, and countless releases..
On Sunday, Ross returned, along with my old buddy Bobby-D (who brought 2 pizza's,  cake, and various leftovers from the previous nights party) , and Dave.. We headed straight back to the previous day's location, and picked up where we left off.. In between Bobbies constant barrage of jokes and one liners, we worked the area all day, ate pizza, and picked fish constantly.. While no monsters where netted, we boxed 8 fat flatties to about 21" , and 10-12 nice C-biscuits. Including a couple of personal bests for Dave and Ross. Spearing/squid, Peruv's, and gulps all took their share..  By the end of the day Sunday, my arms where tired, I was stuffed with pizzapie and coffee cake,  and my sides where sore form laughing.. man I needed that!   chrz
