Casino Pier
« on: June 02, 2009, 07:52:53 AM »
I've never fished from a pier before and was thinking of trying Casino pier this week.
Would the gear and tackle I usually use for the surf be ok?
10ft tica fast action 1-8oz and 8ft Penn medium action 1-3oz.
And what about a net...do you need your own or does the pier usually have them available for everyone's use?

We supply nets on the pier.  We have been bailing bass every day. It has been insane at times. Surf gear will be fine.  We have rigs and gear for rent if you need it. I might be there sat. If I don't take out the boat. A couple of my friends will be there early

Good luck if you go!  Casino Pier is fun.  Worked for the Pier/Water Park back in the day under different owners.  Fished many a days from the end behind the rides and off the fishing pier...lots of fun.  Certainly gets you out past the breakers where we kill ourselves to put the bait.

You can probably scale down to a shorter rod if you have one, but you will need the same pound line and all of the same setups will work.  If you don't have anything shorter, your surf rod will do the trick.

Enjoy...

Nice fish!

How long has your uncle run/owned the fishing pier...at least 15 years or so?

Cool, I thought so!  Fished many a times out there with my father.  We used to buy a good amount of tackle and rods/reels as well.  I haven't been fishing on the pier in 10 years...maybe it is time to go again ;D.

i didn't know your family owed that place Charlie. I haven't been on it, but since I take the kids on the boardwalk all the time, I am around it very often.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Catfish,
What times would you say is best for the pier, anything during the day at high tide? Or is it mostly at night?
Fish was very helpful and down to earth when I went there last summer. (well I did mention you!)
Thanks!  Jeff

Hey CatFish are you online?
Getting ready to head to Tom's River to visit my folks, and thought I'd hit the pier or Seaside Park for some quick and easy fishing.  One day I'll make IBSP. I see high tide is late tonight, any suggestions as far as my post above?  I'll have my daughter with me so I can't fish too late!
Thanks!
Jeff
P.S.  If I don't hear from you, I'll try and find parking near the pier and stop in on Fish and see if there's any action!

Thanks for the update Rugman!  I hope he and the other anglers got the bite on!  It's been pretty quiet back on LI surf these past few days.  I don't know what happened to all the fish.
I did stop by the pier earlier, tide was still low, a fella just pulled up a decent sized ray, had a huge stinger on it.  He hit a short fluke earlier and a cocktail blue when a school passed by.  Couldn't convince my daughter to stick around so we wandered the boardwalk, played some games, and ate some boardwalk food.  I'm toying with the idea of heading back out in a little while, I think the high tide is around 11:30, and with a cloudy night, the striped ones might venture close.
Tight lines all!

Good luck!  The striped ones have been very elusive from the beach the last few weeks!
