Sharking
« on: July 20, 2009, 04:17:07 PM »
I've been shark fishing on friends boats before but now that I have my own 20 c.c. I was going to try it this weekend. Does anyone see a problem with fishing, and chumming for sharks around 5 miles offshore. Is that to close to chum? Does anyone have any spots or wrecks that they can recommend? I'm sure the only sharks I will have a shot at being this close to shore is Thresher, or maybe blue sharks if I'm lucky. Any feedback on any part of this question would be much appreciated. And again, at this point in my boating experience I don't feel to comfortable going out any further than 7-10 miles even if it's calm. Thanx. chrz

all my spots are at least 15 off and most are 25-30 miles out. not to say i have never caught sharks closer in than that, but the amount of boat traffic closer in breaks any slick you have set up and makes it harder for the sharks to zone in on your baits.

You could start at 17 fathoms or the ba buoy they are about six to 10 miles out off the highlands you should have a chart plotter to see the breaks on the map helps out alot monster ledge would be your closest spot 25 miles out from shark river
