I knew it was bound to happen! These past two weeks have been excellent. The Striper Queen (my sister) and brother in law Witches Bru were out with me this AM after making bait on fresh spearing. Bucket was loaded with the goods, fresh salted frozen Pnutz from wednesday and high hopes that we could put together another remarkable day. Chugged up the shrews with a favorite destination in mind but decided to take a detour on a hunch. First drop and there's a shortie that's lifted over the rail. Back for another day little guy.... the water was fairly churned up from yesterday's showers and debris littered the lower bay particularly in the channel. Wind was kind of funky across tide in the am. Dropped on a couple of areas with nothing to show. Moved around quite a bit trying to find fish
The lower bay seemed to be devoid of life. After the change in tide... gave it another shot expecting things would improve. Not a prayer. Screw it guys lets go outside to the reef area and see if anyone is home. Nothing here either. Did see dolphins and a bunch of bunker pods slapping on the top periodically getting spooked real good. Bluefish showed their presence too. With no interest in them we continued to explore old haunts that have produced in the past. Fluke were not in the cards today. No keepers and only 11 shorts for the day. Managed to locate small seabass that took anything from gulp, squidd, pnutz or spearing but couldn't stay on the spot for long. Frustrating that the bigger ones were not having there way with it. Did connect with two decent CB's in the Snake but by now the south wind was blowin pretty good. Tried the beach area, the dredge and a couple others. Good day for a boat ride. Producing a catch not so much.
Will have to get 'em next time.
