I dont have a boat or know anyone who has one so im stuck with pier fishing.

Im Located in woodbridge and I have been pier fishing recently to perth amboy, carteret pier and to sewaren, with no luck at catching anything.

I did alot of reading and checked out what locals on these piers were doing and made my own rigs which i didnt have any success with.

The problem is no one was really catching anything there either.

At this point i just want to catch something and dont really care if its freshwater or saltwater.

Are there any fishing spots in central jersey where people actually catch fish ? Where can i go?

I wanted somewhere close by so i can make it a regular thing without having to drive 2 hours down to south jersey

Hi and welcome to the NJSWF.COM sight. Keansberg N.J has a nice long pier they charge a small fee. Its only a 20 minute drive from Woodbridge. Why dont you give a party boat a try?  The Sea Hawk is right near you in Perth Amboy. And The Fisherman is down in the Highlands. Both boats have great captains and crews to put you on the Fish. You can find Information about those boats on this websight. Good Luck

I will second that.  Unless you are really fixed on fishing from a pier or shore I say jump on a boat there are plenty of great boats out there within 1 hour of your location.  I have fished with cap Ron on the fisherman in the Highlands and you will be very happy with the boat and crew and thats just to name one.  Keep reading these posts and you will see for yourself there are boats and captains always on this site and they are very honest about there catches. Good luck

Welcome grtn!

Unfortunately, that's why they call it FISHING ;D!  You don't always catch.  Saltwater definitely is even harder by land because if the fish aren't around where you are fishing, you are not going to catch them.  They have a lot of water to swim in.  Freshwater fishing is not always a guarantee either, but at least the fish are contained in the lake or pond and you know they are there...getting them to bite is another story.  Your best bet is by boat, like the other guys said.  Either a Party Boat or Charter.  That is not always guaranteed to catch either, but the Captains of these boats have many places where they can look for fish.  Their goal is to put their customers on the fish and make them happy...and they all do a great job at that.

If you want to consider freshwater, which is a completely different game, take a look at this link Freshwater Locations and give that a try.  Pickerel, bass and sunfish have all been eating pretty well this summer.  You will need a fishing license to freshwater fish.

What type of rigs have you been using for saltwater, bait and what have you been targeting?  I know you said anything, but different species require different tactics.

Anyone here will certainly try our best to give the information you will need to put you on fish.  August is a weird month for all fishing.  In general, it is usually a month when the fishing slows down, both fresh and salt waters.  Juvenile fish are still too small to really be caught and the adults tend to feed less and head to cooler waters.  However, with the mild summer, you may see August really break wide open.

You just need to keep at it and put in the time.  You will eventually be rewarded with a catch.  Fishing, whether you catch or not...as the saying goes, is certainly better than working.  Enjoy fishing for the sport of getting out and having fun...and remember though fish have tiny, tiny pea brains...they will outsmart you more than once ;D!

Good luck and enjoy!

I think that is one of the things that keeps people coming back and back and back is the fact that we know that there are fish out there but you never know when the bite will be on.

Put your time in and read all you can about different techniques and be prepared to be content with just fishing.  Catching will come once you understand the process, but I have to warn you I have been fishing for over 50 years on the Jersey shore and I still go away saying to my self boy; it sure was a great day to be on the beach.

Happy Catching
