weakfish?
« on: August 09, 2009, 09:26:28 AM »
With the heavy rains every other night it seems that the bite has yet to pick up. Weakies are the only species that keep me sane through the dog days. Has anyone been catching?  5hrug

Haven't heard too much about weakfish recently.  Bucktail had a couple nice ones in the begining of the summer.  I also saw a few weighed in from the Barnegat Inlet jetties back a couple months now.  I have heard "chatter" about some spikes being caught here and there and some boats going out grass shrimping for them.  However, the comments were that the fishing for them has not been good.

The weakfish fishery last year was not great.  I hope this year is different, but I do remember the fishery always being cyclical and up and down.  A few years of great fishing and then a few not so great.  Best bet is to hit your favorite spots and give it a try.  My goal is to get out a night or two this week and give them a try in the Toms River.

Good luck.
