Got the urge to get down and dirty with some bluefish today. So I took advantage of our NJSWF discount and jumped aboard the Cock Robin today.
We left the dock with a full boat and took a looooooooong ride north. It was close to a two hour ride past the hook. It turned out to be worth it as the boat had great action all day!
Today's trip was everything party boat bluefishing is supposed to be. Chum flying, blood and guts everywhere, major tangles and big hard fighting yellow eyed demons!
It was tough to find a place to jig today, so I mostly stuck with bait (as did everyone else). I caught about a half dozen big blues. I definitely could have caught a lot more, but I was picking and choosing my spots. I wanted to avoid the myriad of spider web tangles which occurred pretty regularly. The mates were all very professional, courteous and calm as they picked away at, what (at times), looked like impossible situations.
Although I didn't see it, I heard that the pool winner was close to 18 lbs. Definitely a lot of fun out there today!
