Today is the anniversary of my fathers death.  4 years ago today, on a Friday night, only minutes after a phone conversation I had with him about planning a fishing trip the very next day, a massive heart attack took his life while driving home with my mother from AC. They were there on the anniversary.  The day we were supposed to go fishing, instead, I was picking out his coffin.  Freaky enough, every day from that particular gloomy night, we had a thunderstorm every July 18th since.  Uncle Luna has been filling in that missing void.  Now that I am a father myself, I will cherish all the moments I take my kids on the boat.  I know it will impact them for the rest of there life like it did me.  My father never got a chance to meet his grandkids, but I know he is watching down on me to make sure I do what it takes to bring such a love of this sport into there lives.  For all you fathers out there, please do the same.  They will love you for it when they are older. In memory of the best fishing partner I ever had.

Nick,

Very well said.  I too have a daughter who will never meet her grandfather, breaks my heart.  Keep the memory alive and fill you children's world with the same memories.

Some great pics there.  Lost my dad as well back in '86.  Priceless memories and a great on the water education. Passing what he taught me on to own.

I understand the feeling.   I purchased a house on the water and was planning on many a day's taking my dad out fishing and crabbing.  As a kid my father never had time to spend on a boat, but he made sure his kids spent alot of time at the beach, surf fishing and crabbing.  Well to make this a short story, dad never got to enjoy my house or boat.  A year after I married, he became ill with cancer and subsequently died a year after that.  He new I had a new baby girl when he was on his death bed, but nature took its course........Now everytime my mom comes to visit, she say's "boy your dad would have loved it her....."   He never met my son.  So anyway, cherrish the monments you have, remember the good times....I will now try and relive some of those good times with my kids!  Live is rough but we can pass on those good memories/lessons to our kids!

Sorry to hear about what had happened to your father. He is definitly in a better and safer place right now watching you land those sweet fish you always catch. Keep doing what your doing, he would be proud of you.  ;)


P.S - You sure hold out a fish in your hand just like he does.

I too am missing my times fishing with my Dad. I remember times when it was still cool to go with your parents anywhere., my Dad took me fishing, just him and me. he could catch fish in a mud puddle, not me though, I had to work for every fish I ever caught, still do, come to think of it.He was catching fish left and right, not me, I was almost near tears, being only about 10ish, I told him I would never go fishing again. He sent me to the little camp store for a pop and when I came back he was yelling for me to run as he thinks I have a fish on my line, sure enough it was the biggest walleye I had ever seen.  I didn't need to catch any more fish I had the biggest fish of the day.
Wasn't till many years later that I figured out he had sent me away so he could put that fish on my line and let me catch it.
Have I ever did this to my kids?? I will never tell,but I will say, they love to fish...keep the memories going with your own children, one day they will tell wonderful fishing stories about you too.
