Got out late, found some bunker pods just north of Manasquan Inlet. Treble snagged what I thought was a bunker, let him swim a bit. When I brought him up after 15 minutes ( I was going to chunk him), I saw that i had actually snagged a cocktail blue! I was surprised, but I guess that can happen. I threw some metal out, nada. The fish were busting on the top, obviously blues on the bunker. Anyone think I should have thrown a pencil popper out? Would that have been a good thing? Anyhow, did that a while, messed around with a few more bunker pods on the way in, no takers. I was going in the jetty mouth when I saw a boat with 3 guys on it and they were bringing in some small cocktail blues with ava lures (slender metals with red tubes). I tried the same, but maybe 50% of the time my lure came up tangled with the treble hook around the line. The thought occured to me that my retrieve may have been too slow- how fast are you supposed to retrieve for blues? Did the hook get the line on the cast? If that's the case, that would suck and defeat the whole purpose. Any help would be appreciated, I am just trying to learn proper technique... Thanks
