Having returned from my vacation and needing a saltwater fishing fix, me and Bob G ran the Irish Ayes out the Shark River inlet for an hour or so of wetting lines. Figured on jigging or trolling depending on what we saw fit.
Just outside the inlet I read some good marks on my Furuno DF. We stopped and tossed some metal. I immediately have a bump on my Ava but don't get hooked up. At the same time Bob G gets hooked up using a crippled herring and is now working a fish around the boat on his light spinning outfit. A short fight brings a mid size false albie into the boat. Into the cooler for shark bait on a future trip.
No more hits and the Furuno shows a ghost town under us so off we go onto a troll north.
Fifteen minutes into the troll the starboard rod doubles over with a steady bend. I jump on the rod (Bob is now running the boat) and bring in a nice three to five pound plastic bag of water and a big clump of seaweed on the hook
. No other knock downs on the troll.
Back to the inlet where we find some marks again and jig. This rewards me with a five/six pound blue fish. In the box for more shark bait.
Short trip, no skunk and great weather. Just what the doctor ordered for my saltwater fishing fix.
Next trip is planned for Saturday. Will do the shark trip, weather permitting, and bring along some tuna rigs just in case.
