Islamorada,FL fishing
« on: June 12, 2007, 08:41:29 PM »
Heading down there the end of July solo, and staying with my Uncle who fishes alot, but has had polio for 30 years so back to back trips are out of the question. Looking for a head boat down there that puts fish in the boat. Found the Gulfstream out of Key West and Key Largo - BudnMary's - Robbies marina - and Ket West Split charters from the web, but am open to new suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Were down there a couple of years ago and it is fantastic fishing.  You will have a blast no matter what boat you go on...

Good luck fishing down there Bob.  I hear it is awesome. I haven't been there but hope to go someday.

I am not sure if your interested, but thee is a marina directly over the bridge going into Key Marathon.  The will rent boats, up to 25' for the week.  You can go to any wreck out there and catch just about anything.  Or go right under the bridge and catch Tarpon or Cuda's.  I used to go and the fishing down there is well worth it.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

One of the best head boats for catching and one of the cleanest boats is "Robbie's". It use to sail from Holiday Isle in Islamarada but moved to Robbie's Marine last year.  Robbie's Marine is around MM marke seventy seven. ( It's the place where the tourists go to feed the Tarpon.)

I almost forgot about Robbie's, here is their web info:

They also have some neat web cams as well of the taropn feeding, if I locate it I will post it here.

There used to be a party boat at Holiday Isle Marina and acorss at Whale Harbour both in Islamorada.  Not sure if they're still there but easy to find out.

Also there is the Marathon Lady in Marathon about 30 minutes south of Islamorada.

You might also want to consider fishing off the numerous bridges down there. I used to do that all the time. Caught everything from small grunts to snappers to small groupers to blue runner, spanish mackerel to big (#25+) barracuda. All you need for bait is a bucket of live shrimo. If you catch a blue runner-live line those suckers for the big 'cudas

Think I have some links to some Keys party boats at home. Will post them later tonight.

Holiday Isle was sold and is going Condo's.  I don't know what will happen to the fishing fleet that docks there now.  There are no more party boats at Holiday Isle or Whale Harbor.
