Trolling with leader..
« on: June 16, 2007, 08:19:12 PM »
Just picked up a few Stretch 25's.  these are some big boys..  I paid a nice hunk of change for them and I'm a little concerned on sending them out without a wire leader..  Hate to lose these things to a nasty blue.

Can I use wire leader on them? I know some of you just go right to the braid.

I troll them on braid with a 10' mono leader to provide a little stretch  when I hook up. I have caught many blue on them and never lost one. I have never had one swallowed up to the leader. I did have one break the dive blade off and lost the lure. Sent it back to Mann and they sent me two new ones.

i've had over a dozen big blues on my one before a blue swam away with it,, i figure money well spent. but we do put leaders on them now, and it still produces. hope you got the silver with blue back thats the hot one with the most strikes.

trick i tried today that i read somewhere, can't remember where. to get those 25's even deeper use with a trolling sinker (i used a 4oz) about 6ft infront of the lure. deploy it while not moving, when it hits bottom bump motor into gear and let out line as you get upto trolling speed. seemed to work, when we stoped to bring in a big blue the lure was bouncing off the bottom as it was reeled in.

hottest trolling speed i found, for blues anyway, is about 3mph water speed.
All your tuna's are belong to me

I use a 15' 60 lb test Floro Carbon leader, have not lost one yet and have caught plenty of Choppers ;D ;)
