Striper Jigs

Was going to give striper fishing a try this weekend around the Shark River Inlet.  This will be my first shot at it on my own, any suggestions on the different jigs I should load up on before I head out?

Don't forget Butterflies, Crippled Herrings, Krocodiles, swim shads and (of course) bucktails! 

If you're new to this game, and not looking to get too  fancy, the AVAs that Joe and Rod mentioned are always a good choice!

I just started using the Vison Sand Eel and Rain Fish last year.......they work great when the bass are feasting on them and them alone

I have used the Ava's before bluefishing, casting and dropping to the bottom and realing in as fast as I could.  Same method used for bass fishing??

Try different techniques to find out what they are responding to that day.  Let it sink and try small twitches right off the bottom, short hops or long sweeps of the rod.  Always try to maintain contact with the jig, as they often bite on the fall.  Sometimes a slow steady retrieve works better than anything.

One method that was working today was the AVA's with a teaser about 12" above the jig.  Guy next to us beached a nice bass just shy of legal limit though.

I've had better success 'jigging' the AVAs and a slow retrieve back to the boat with Krocodile spoons & Crippled Herrings.

Going surf fishing this sat. about 5:30 am at ibsp any suggestions on what to to use for bait or rigs before the sun comes up and after the sun comes up??? thanks in advance jack

A17-47 w/ feathers or no tail. Also, grab a 2oz aok t-hex.
