Nick my son is 10 and he has been fishing with me since he was 6. So I know what you are dealing with here. The fish cuddy is nice i have a 25 Grady sailfish and it is a great boat .Not new but I have it rigged the way I need it to be. 
The cuddy is great when you have young kids on the boat, exact reason why I am doing this, but can't afford a new one the size I want. So, I will do what you did.. get used and rig it the way I want. Most out there are already rigged pretty good though. I have to do some more homework during the winter, then try to make a push in February and be in the water by April. We will see..
