Striped Bass off Island Beach Park
« on: November 09, 2009, 05:37:28 PM »
Got an invite to fish with friend and neighbor Russ on his center console docked in Waretown. We were greeted by a flat calm seas as we left Barnegat inlet just after 7AM. North to off the bathing beach pavillion to swirling bass and birds. It wasn't fast fishing but over the next few hours we each caught about a dozen stripers with a keeper a piece. Some of the fish were 27 3/4". All caught on jigs. Bouncing  bottom and occasionally reeling up half way produced our best results even though we could see the fish on top. 2-3 oz plain jig no tail with a hammered finish did the job today. Pics to follow.

Hey John!  Judging from your surf reports, you don't need a boat to catch those fish! ;)

Nice catch! t^

Nice going John...You passed me right by as you left the inlet.  I was the first veh. at the pocket a maroon Expedition.  I wound up catching a couple of shorts and a skate but no keepers.  All my fish were caught at pre dawn at just about dead low tide.

The inlet was very bust yesterday especially with the tugs hauling out 2 pipes which were about a 1/4 mile long.  At one point the inlet was blocked off as they made the turn into the inlet.  Pretty cool to watch.

Getting back to fishing I heard the place to be yesterday was of Gillkins pre dawn they were all over the place up there.

Happy Catching

The key is predawn if you can do it.  I was listening to the fleet today and they were catching using Stretches plus the majority were on the bottom or jigging just off the bottom and catching.

Happy Catching
