After a rough trip.
« on: July 25, 2007, 12:27:56 PM »
Hey guys,,

Just a thing to check after dealing with rough water.. After every rough trip on the water I'm faced with. I go over ever possible screw on the boat.. You would be amazed on how the pounding backs them out.. So once I noticed this happens .. Back them out, hit them with a little thread lock( Blue).. and you be good for a while..

My boat is brand new(well 1 season old now) you'll be shock on what rattles losing..

Just though I share some info.

Hit them with a little 5200, they should stay put for good.

Hey Duff, what's 5200?  I use threadlock for other purposes...but not familiar with whatever 5200 is?

Hi Avid,

3M's 5200 ... they make fast and normal cure. It is a great bonding agent/adhesive/chaulk (so to speak) ... above or below water.

I have a tube on the boat at all times!

Best wishes,

Actually I should clarify.  Any fastener that is screwed into something threaded (a cleat into a backing plate for example) the blue threadlocker, like Joey mentions, works wonders.
Any screw that is threaded into wood or fiberglass, 5200 is unreal.  I've found the caulk gun sized tubes at Home Depot for $4-$5 less than West.  Seal that tube up well when done with it, and it can last you years. A little goes long way.
