STRIPERS!!
« on: December 24, 2009, 08:12:37 AM »
Capt Ron- Keep the fat lady in the wings just a bit longer......

Pictures below tell the story of my day...

-a crisp and clear morning of 19 degrees and, well,... the ReelNauti had to become the SS ICEBREAKER Nauti to get to the fishing grounds!

-as is my usual pre-departure routine, I requested a radio check on 65 ....Silence...oh boy

-chatted with the Glimmer Glass bridge operator while I held up commuter traffic and broke the inlet to.....no other boats in sight!!

-classic conditions, gannents working nicely although spread out far and wide.

-headed north to plug a few jettys, marking bait but nothing special as I moved along.  Nothing on the jetty plugging

-set up two spreads of shads, one dark and one green ON MY NEWLY RIGGED TROLLING REELS BY OUR OWN CAPT RICH- --------!!!! and worked my way south again.  couple of short knock downs and more bait markings but not the type i was looking for...
(Capt Rich- leadcore out fished wire...)

-couple a more shorts and then...hello...the gannents found the buffet table and I had a gift certificate.  used a #7 kroc and put two 30" in da boat.  buffet closed and the gannents sat down to digest

-nothing else interesting, and no one to talk to on the radio or even drive by so on the troll I went again....

-BIG knock down in 45feet heading east....got him turned toward me and thought i was winning then couldnt keep up on the pick up and slack line allowed the break off.  damn, it was a big striper.

-stayed in the general area to about 50 feet and saw what I was looking for.  Short on the kroc and then another 30” fish.  Lost another big striper on the kroc and ended the day on the troll picking up more shorts.

Striped ones are here and so too is the bait, ya gotta get outa the house and on the water to catch 'em!!

Check out the last picture.  This poor bass has had a rough life for his 22"!!!  his behind has been bitten and healed, then he trys to eat one of my shads....dangerous world in the deep!!  hope he gets a few extra bunkers in his stocking tomorrow!!
