I/B or O/B

I always had outboards and I know the basic up keep on them throughout the season. 

What are I/O's like?  I guess you can run them without being in the water.  How about the oil?  How often do you have to change it during a season?  Fuel separator.. Do you have to also change it throughout the season as I do the O/B?  Full comsumption better on the I/B?  Speed better on the O/B?

I am looking at 2 different boats.  One of them has twin 250 Yammies O/B.  The other has twin 265 I/B.  Any info with the pro's and cons would be helpfull.

..and if the engines are original,1987's,there's probably not much left in the tank in those,either...
Not to bud in guys, but if the hours are 213 as stated on the 260 HP (350 ci)  I would think there is a whole lot of life left on those engines, If well maintained.

Something definitely wrong there. 213 hours on 23 year old motors? Less than ten hours a year? I would rather have a motor that is used fairly often than one that sits around collecting dust.

I am leaving a 26' CC.  Would like a full cuddy, but if not, a small cuddy like the donzi would work for what I need it for.

I've had inboards for years. Not I/O. Shaft/rudder. Very durable design, economical but slower than most modern outboard or I/O.

I fish every weekend, with the occasional taking the kids on the boat.

I am looking for 26' or larger with some cover.

i have always had the inboards....was always told to stay away from the I/O from every mechanic i have spoken to. With straight inboards, u do run risk of hitting something and bending the shafts but i havent yet....and i've run over alot of stuff. as jaws said previuosly....i run 2 volvo penta 5.8fl's with 250 hp each....gas guzzlers yes, expensive when a part goes....sometimes....what i like about the inboards is its just like working on my truck....yeah they arent as fast....but the maintenance on them is relatively easy....but they are a very reliable engine in my book
