Cabin Fever Tackle Maintenance
« on: February 06, 2010, 09:44:14 PM »
It's been a loooong winter, and we're not even half way through February. ::)

So, as I do every year, I start tinkering with my tackle.  This year I changed out some rusty, bent, or otherwise inferior treble hooks on a bunch of plugs.

As someone who loves to chuck and wind, I'm always looking for a way to add a little more distance to my casts.  So another thing I did this winter is experiment with a new lubricant for my reels.  Some of you may have heard about it.  It's called Xtreme Reel+ and it's actually a "liquid dry" lubricant (as if that makes any sense).  :headscra:  The first reel I tried it on was my old Shimano Calcutta 250.

When I first used it as directed I didn't see much of an improvement.  But then, with the help of internet reel guru Alan Tani, I was able to  see some really dramatic effects from this stuff.  After removing the shields from the bearings, completely cleaning them of all the old oil, and then reinstalling them with the Xtreme Reel+, I improved the free spool on this reel from 6 seconds to 25 seconds!  Truly amazing! t^

Of course I'll be applying the same treatment to a few more of my reels.

Anyway, that's what I've been doing to ease my cabin fever.  What have you all been doing to keep your fevers down?  ;D
