Ande Mono
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:15:20 PM »
I just emptied all of my spools of 30# Clear Ande. The first 100 yards or so was in pretty good shape. The rest was as if is was almost kinked----not really brittle but definitely not as limp as the top section. It looked almost as if it was kinda twisted. But I know that this line never saw water (unfortunately!!  nosmly) I strength tested the brittle section and it did not break at 30#, so the strenth is still there. I even tasted it to see if it was salty----looks like washing the reels with warm water and Dawn detergent with a cool rinse did a good job-----no salt.  Anyone see this before? What mono do you like to use for a good all purpose striper set up?

Good test you did there.
When I use mono  I stick to two reliable names  Ande and Berley Big Game.
Its a fact that line has a shelve life.If I think its bad I dump it; or If I feel it "okay"  I give it to the kids on the fishing peer, or surf and tell them about the line.
If you use it alot ,change it accordingly.
Hope this helps. t^

I don't like Ande at all. Stren has always been my brand of choice for mono.

You do have to make sure it is laying on the spool correctly when you are putting it on. If you put line on a spinning reel you must have the line go onto the reel in the same direction it is coming off of the spool or you will have twists in the line. You may have done this and then as you were using it the line that was in the water would go back onto the spool in the correct fashion. Thus, the outer part of the line would be correct but the inner most line would still be twisted.

Did the line get too hot, inside a vehicle or was it directly in the sun?  How about oil, grease, wd 40 on it?

That's all I can guess for now ;D.

I am pretty sure I spooled it up correctly, but ya never know----it may have gotten twisted somehow. Never happened before---I chage line at least annually, and sometimes 2-3 times a year if needed.

Thanks for the ideas.
