NJ Announces Closures of Shellfish Beds in several areas

NJDEP has announced to closure of shellfish beds in Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook Bay, the Navesink river and the Shrewsbury River.

Attached is a copy of the order.

So.. it's ok to eat fish out of that area?

I always wondered that too?  If the area is no good for shellfish, why is it ok for all other marine species in the area?  I know that shellfish directly siphon the water and would directly be contaminated, but indirectly all of the marine life will come in contact with this.  The contamination level must not be as concentrated in all the other species.  I guess sort of like the mercury levels is higher in some fish and not others?
