If you go through the voluntary USCG Safety Check and get a sticker for your boat (as well as copy of the report) they Marine Police and USCG normally will not board you to inspect when the see the sticker. And if you do get boarded show them the report along with your reg, and it will save a lot of time.
(Sticker goes on Port Side and they normally approach from the Port).
They are also checking for NOAA Registration cards.
Perhaps a Tad more friendly approach to the Men and Women who are out there trying to protect us all.
While one may deem it an inconvienience for a safety check, it is for our benefit. How many times a year do we hear/read about a tragity that could have been averted had the boater had the proper safety equipment.
Try doing like a lot do, thank them for the inspection, offer them a cold drink of soda or water. Many a time I have been fishing and had the USCG or NJSP riding by and waved them over to offer water.
Here are the links for the FREE USCG Inspection, and NOAA Reg.
