kite fishing

anybody into kite fishing? i've seen a few shows on the subject from both boat and surf and it look like a great way to get the bait out there and keep it on the surface. BUT how hard is it to do?

Hi Hareball,

I do it in Florida. I have the equipment on my boats but I just have not had a chance to try up here.

A long learning curve ... one of the boats I captain/crew on in Florida have it down and I am still learning.

When it works, there is nothing cooler watching that bait get creamed in the surface ...

One of the many techniques I have to work more on ... They sell the rod clusters for about $125/piece. A short rod with a 4/0 Penn for the kite is about $200. The kite and release clips are another $300 or so. So, for under $1k plus fighting rods and reels can get you into the game.
