"'Fish On Weekly Wrap Up" 4-18-10 -Bass- Bass- Bass
« on: April 18, 2010, 09:12:52 PM »
Bass fishing only gets better from here. Most anglers this week reported some of the best bass fishing in years with just about anything you can throw, bait or troll, bass were there for the presentation. Follow the birds and your chances of landing a trophy can double and triple with a little luck.

Captain Allen from Pt. Pleasant aboard Reel Class Charters had Doc, Anthony, and Alan aboard for a morning bass trip. Just north of Shark River inlet the crew immediately jigged up a few fish. After a few moves and chasing gannets in hopes of more action it was fish on. Bass were chasing up Kroc spoons and shads right to the boat. The crew maxed out on bass up to 20 lbs 33” and released up to 20 keepers to fight another day.

Finally Captain Jerry aboard the Fish Monger from Brielle switched over to bass and did a number on them. With diving birds and bass busting on the surface the crew was able to get a fish on all rods with multiple hook ups with 9 fish in the box. The crew had a short break and again the fish were breaking the surface for another round of countless keepers being released. Crocs, shads and jigs were the ticket. A great sign for better days ahead. By day’s end the Monger released over 50 keeper size stripers to 28lbs with everyone taking home a limit. Captain Jerry will continue to mix it up with black fishing the next few days and always adding stripers to the schedule.

Capt Bob, Sandy Hook Fishing Adventures ran an open boat trip with a group from NJ Hunter Ralph, Vinnie, Vic and Angel. The crew headed out to a 15-20 NW wind and ran down the beach to the rocks. They put 2 keepers in the box at the rocks and then ran north and put 2 more keepers in the box. In order to max out the crew limits Captain Bob kept moving around and began clamming real heavy which resulted in six more keepers for the crew plus countless shorts to make it another great day of fishing aboard Sandy Hook Fishing Adventures.

Sandy Hook, Captain Matt and Captain Keith Bush made their first run at the bass aboard the La Barca. Captain Keith told me that the fish were breaking the surface hitting everything including poppers and plugs. They had multiple hook ups with fish up to 15 lbs and were able to max out in the first 30 minutes just north of Shrewsbury rocks. With so many fish they were able to try out different trolling techniques and top water plugs that they have been itching to try.

From Keyport local bass fisherman Art Berkman met up with Captain Lou Grazioso. Immediately leaving the Marina Captain Lou found the fish and the guys jigged up bass for 2 straight hours on 7” shads with every fish over 28” and a memory that is priceless. All bass were released to fight another day and according to Art he will be making more memories this week.

Perth Amboy, Capt Mike aboard The Sea Hawk is fighting bass daily with a steady pick during the incoming and outgoing tides. Pool fish have been in the 20lb range all week.

I did get reports of bunker schools in the rivers and Great Kills Harbor. This can only mean one thing, blue fish are here. You may not like the bluefish but they definitely will keep you on your toes.Remember be courteous, safe, and follow all regulations, for more information on how to be sure you are in compliance with NY- NJ regulations log onto www.NJSaltwaterfisherman.com
