Rod and Reel
« on: April 20, 2010, 02:10:32 PM »
I am looking for a good surf casting rod and reel for both artificial and live baits.  Does anybody have any suggestions? Looking to spend under 350 for the combo.

Are you looking for spinning or casting?

Spinning:

Shimano Stradic on a Tica Dolphin.  You pick the size you want...I would go 10 foot.  Should put you right around $350 with tax!

Nice rod the Tica dolphin just picked up a 9', 2-6 oz. I have several others for bait but I believe you'll need a 8-9 footer for pluggin and something 10+ for rough water and 8+ oz. I like Tica for the money, I have a 10 and  a conventional 11 for bunker heads and 8-10 oz. The Shimano baitrunners are great if you fish with bait alot.

My personal pick for an all around good outfit would be the 10' Tica Dolphin Surf and the Penn 560 Slammer.  I have used this for years not and it is my go to rig.  I have 40# Power Pro and I am happy with the way it works.  Wind Knots are almost unheard of.

Just check o9ut the specs on the rod and it it falls within what you will be throwing you should be good to go.

Happy Catching
