This is a great event that raises money for Casting For Recovery (
www.castingforrecovery.org)
This year's tourney is the seventh!!
The first five years the tourney was hosted by Kayak Fishing Stuff (unfortunately now out of business), years six and forward will be hosted by Captain Kayak (
www.captainkayak.com).
The tourney is to be held on Saturday, May 15th, with a rain date of Sunday, May 16th. The park, Gateway National, Jamaica Bay Unit, will be open on Thusday (13th) and Friday (14th) to allow anglers to get camp sites set-up and to get in some pre-fishing.
This is a photo & release tournament; striped bass, Blue and Weakfish. More details at Captain Kayak's site as the tournament approaches.
I'm a member of a very impromptu group called the "Wolfpack" who has, in the past, fished primarily out of the Sandu Hook area. During the past two tourneys we put together a raffle in which the angler donates a minimum of $5 to Casting For Recovery and a lure (or lures) of their choice; all the monies go to CFR,
all the plugs will be raffled off to
one lucky winner. As I recal - each $5 donation "purchases" the angler a ticket for the raffle... Donate 20 Bucks and your have 4 chances to win the raffle.
The JamBay tournament is pretty big - last year there were in excess of 200 anglers. People show up from all over the place, including Canada. The raffle gets to be pretty damn big!
So, this is a plug ( yes, pun intended ) for the Tournament and the Wolfpack Raffle. As soon as an address becomes available (where to send the donation(s) and plug(s)) I'll get it posted.
This is COMPLETLY for
Casting For Recovery. I do not, in any way, shape or form, benefit from the raffle nor the tournament organizers.
