On Friday May 14 myself and 1st Mate Danny Batko had the honor and privilege of taking 3 true American heroes on a fishing trip we hope they will remember for a long time. The three anglers were as follows:
Battalion Chief Richard Picciotto, FDNY retired with 30 years of service. Chief Picciotto was in the North tower when it collapsed on the morning of September 11, 2001 and he spent the next five hours trapped in the debris.
United States Army- Platoon Leader Mark Moody of the Mississippi National Guard. Mark was attached to a Marine Expeditionary Force and served our country with honor and distinction in Iraq.
United States Army-Ricardo “Mo” Morlabaez 445 Quartermaster Company – Ricardo also served our country with honor and distinction in Iraq. Ricardo also served with the United States Marine Corp – Forward Service Support Group – Okinawa and is preparing to retire after 20 years of military service. Ricardo is also one of New York’s finest serving with the NYPD.
With a crew of this caliber how we could have a bad day? We left the Canal Street Piers at 0900 with a shotgun start and ran into Raritan Bay to chunk. We caught 2 bass and a bluefish before getting a call from Captain Freddy Gamboa of === Toy that a bigger bass bite was on to the south. The group decided they wanted to go so off we went. We arrived at the spot and immediately got the guys into an awesome liveline bite with plenty of fish caught and quite a few missed. We ended the day with 15 bass up to 39” and 1 Bluefish. All of the fish were measured, photographed and released. God bless America and God bless our uniformed servicemen and women.
