Cock Robin- Friday
« on: May 28, 2010, 09:36:46 PM »
A new day, new conditions and old friends....bunker, well, that issue remained the same until Captain Jim managed to put a 100 livies on the deck and told me to, "...deal with that..."

Sailing lite again (if youre interested in a 72' boat, running open daily, with PLENTY of room at the rail, we are your vessel....) I went for the day to fish with customer/ friends Contractor Mic, "Helper" Keith, KHarps, my "new" friend Jerry (making his second trip this week) young Brendan and Dad, Rich the Chef and his buddy.

Pictures on FaceBook tell the EARLY tale of bunker misery, processor ship, 3 net boats and a spotter plane all decending on the poor bunkie, needles to say snagging was a challenge. Captain Jim hearing no positive reports from the fishing grounds decided to stay in bait making mode as we traveled across small piles of fleeing bunker and lockjaw bass.

With bass on his mind, Captain Jim struck a deal w/ a bunker boat and our livewell was FULL!!! Off to the bassing grounds we went......

SLOW was the going with the "charter" filling in the time "getting to know one another" (you REALLY need to be aboard when this game is played; ie who is more of a man, Snoopy or Underdog?)

As the tide changed and we got some current (and more little boats out for the years first run) we began to get some runoffs and FINALLY hook-ups. Nothing to write about, but certainly 100% better than yesterday!

On the last drift, mate Johnny and I had livies within 10yrds of each other. Both bunkers were swimming for their lives with us BEGGING the bass to eat...not to happen as we watched the bunker drive down deep only to emergency surface with swirls....arghhh...3 toots of the horn and we were on the way home....we thought..

Captain Jim was called in on a bass bite happening on the way home and put the hammer down to get us on the scene. Bass were blowing up bunker and our livies were sent into the fray. Surface explosions, running bunker and screaming drags followed as Contractor Mic hooked up and mate Johnny connected with a Croc handing the hook up to young Brendan who had previously lost a heartbreaker at the boat. Runoffs and hook ups happened around the boat.

We are back at it ALL weekend with LIVE bunkers at the ready (THANKS Capt Paul, Bounty Hunter for running your pump all night) and CLAMS should we need to join the clam fleet to the north.
