IrishAyes bassing 6-22-10
« on: June 22, 2010, 10:20:08 PM »
Had Ron, Marty, Ed, Johnny5 and BobG onboard today. Pushed off at 2pm and headed out to look for bunkers.

Found some just outside our inlet and snagged away. Made some moves north and snagged enough for the night.

Headed to a lump not far off of Asbury. Made a few drifts but no one home.

Moved north and saw a swarm of gulls feeding on top of the water. Made some casts with metals and dropped some bunkers. BobG brought in a small (very small) bluefish. The small blues were smashing the daylights out of bait. No bass underneath so we left the blues for some anticipated bass action.

Went further north and found more bait that we drifted on. Boated three bass up to 33 pounds and lost four others. The guys were new to livelining bass and circle hooks and kept trying to set the hook, a hard habit to break.  ;D

The sky started getting dark and the wind began to pick up so we headed back to the barn earlier that expected. We did beat the rain and also got the fish and boat cleaned before dark.

All in all, not a bad day/evening on the water. Will be at it again tomorrow hopefully with the same or better results.

Sorry for the poor pic. At times, I hate digital cameras, hard to see if the subject is properly lite, posed, etc.  5hrug

Great trip Joe!  Just goes to show, the stripes are still there to be caught, if you know what you're doing and you're willing to work for them. t^

Way to go Capt. Joe, nice catch.

Smart move heading north out of SRI. The bite at Spring Lake to SRI seems to have slowed down. Last 2 trips out there in the AM, we went 2 for 2, and 2 for 3, nice fish from 25 to 30 Lbs. but not a whole lot of action. It's like, make good on the few runoffs you get or you get the skunk. Have not seen any boats in our immediate vicinity catching either while we were fishing. I'm hearing a lot more bass in the Long Branch/Deal vicinity, and judging from how you did, the intel was right on the money.
