Bunker / Menhaden  Just a schooling fish that many species of Game Fish like to eat.

Where does one net minnows for bait?

Most use a Minnow trap.. put in shallow water in the back bays.. with a piece of bread or fish..when I was younger I use to use a net and walk them into it in shallow water

There are sand eels..  when fish are feeding on them Ava's work well

What size minnows are the best size?

Is a license needed to trap and or net them in New Jersey Ocean and bays?

You want to match the size of your bait to what you are fishing for.. For Stripers, full grown 1-2lb -adult Bunkers are not too big.. You can catch alot of Fluke with small baits like Killies, and spearing and the little stuff you catch in a trap.. but with the larger size limits these days, I like bigger baits like Peanut (juvenile) Bunker, or snapper Bluefish for flatties... Get yourself a cast net, and learn to throw it, and you'll save a lot of $$ at the bait shops..A cast net is best for catching peanuts.. Snapper blues can also be caught by jigging small metals and/or  Sabiki rigs.. just remember they are still Bluefish and must be counted toward the daily creel limit.  t^  chrz

Where do you find these fish to use a cast net on?

At the boat dock when I launch?
