The Squan's Fluke Still Lovin the Gulp
« on: June 27, 2010, 05:00:00 PM »
Got into the river about 6. Caught 2 keepers on incoming east of the train bridge 64 degrees. I met my daughter at 8 and went to the ocean north to Seagirt only a couple of shorts the action was way too slow. Came back inside and slammed about 30 shorts in an hour my daughter out fishing me 3 to 1.(I was busy tending to her fish) I tied a dropper loop about a foot above her 1 oz white buck-tail put a 3/0 circle hook with Gulp chartreuse 4" mullet and the fish went nuts over it. They weren't keepers but she had a blast. I know circle hooks are not your typical hook for fluke and it is a pain to feed the gulp on them but most of the fluke were hooked in the mouth and not in the throat so they all will make it. It was a fun morning. I am off from Wed. till next Mon. so I figure to get at least every day except Sat and Sun. The 4th is really the big out of towner starting weekend of summer.

If anyone from Berkley would like to send me a Gulp hat for all the promos I do PM me (hey it worked for Summit Treestands when I posted a review on Huntinggnet.com LOL) ;D

Is all the fluke in the squan been caught up the river? It seems the fishing around the inlet sea wall has been completely dead for the entire season thus far.

Even when drifting in the inlet I have never done as well as the rest of the river. I have caught some big fluke off the wall working buck-tails and gulp. The best spot for me has been by the monument(Point side) at the spot the concrete wall meets the new wall there is a deeper hole there and to the left of that all around the monument. The last fish I caught in the inlet was a stargazer. If you are land bound try the Manasquan Dog beach or find your way to gull island both side are good spots, its just a pain to get there, When I was a kid we used to go down the tracks. Also the river beach in the Boro the new wall the put up by the condos looks good a saw several nice fish caught there this weekend. Hope that helps

Oh ok thanks. Yes it seems the fluke have been up the river more so this season thus far. I guess they already moved in over a month ago

Wheres the "river beach in the Boro" with a new wall you are talking about?

yes ive been catching alot of shorts by the old hospital, you have to go rite along the channel almost near the docks, would be easier by land.
