Trash Talker (niece Olivia), Brother Jay aka Shay Shay, Striper Queen (sister Gail) were the crew today. Had a nice leisurely start to the day, getting down at the marina at 10:15. Bait was all over the place so we netted a bunch of fresh spearing and sparked up the livewell. Asian Squid and killies completed the menu along with a new bucket of 4" chartreuse gulp minnow. We were set... rounded into SH bay and too many boats for my liking. The NW was a bit honky keeping everyone in close. Stuck to the plan to work similar ground on my last outing. There were fish there last week but conditions were less than optimal.
By the time we get to our first drift, the flood was just topping out. Trash Talker connects with keeper CBass and the grin said it all. No need for smack talk, the kids got some stuff. We wait it out for the slack, search around for a couple more humps and lumps. Then bingo. Multiple fish on every drift. A quality CBass, a boxer flattie, a couple of shorts...Wow, didn't think it would be this consistent. We stopped to have a TASTEE - Coleman dog. Donnie, great idea.
They felt like they were at the ball park. Hot mustard on a bun and then back at it. Bunker were all over the place and made for easy bait strips. The fluke were jumping it hard!
Deadly combo today.... Bucktailing heavy pink spro tipped with fresh bunker, with a teaser gulp/squid topped with fresh spearing. For the day we caught 35 flatties, 3 Cbass, 2 skates, no Lionel Ritchie's, no doggies and no bluefish. Ended up keeping 8 flats with many near legit and 3 Cbass.
Great day with family. Doesn't get better than that. Fish were a bonus!
