Cock Robin- Friday through Monday Recap
« on: August 02, 2010, 10:08:47 PM »
Website, emails and Facebook kept you in touch with us through the period and here's the recap, the good and BAD.....

Friday- with "warnings" to all who boarded of the lack of fish and the Pee Wee sized fish we left old and new friends in the search of, well.....something.

The something we found were Pee Wee's and enough of 'em where everyone caught, some better than others but with a dry north east wind with a southerly swell, early rail time was a bit difficult for some.

Noah Breidinger, Emmaus Pa schooled dad, Terry and Uncle Al, both longtime Cock Robin fisherman in the stern. Noah's performance ranked up there with the super varsity Camp Cock Robin team members Stephen, Justin and Brett. A simple drop, lock and reel method had Terry and Al scrambling for every trick in the book to catch up to Noah's fish count. We look forward to having this young rising superstar aboard again, especially during striper season.

Longtime Cock Robin friends Tom and Bud made the trip despite written warnings of fish size expectations and, yup won the pool!

New friends Nicole and Jacob joined us with grand dad and father, both catching them up with Nicole learning quickly who the "sharpies" were and benefited from the experience reeling in both her own hooked fish and those passed to her hooked by others!!!

Young Michael, pictured below might be the new poster boy of bluefishing. He joined dad and despite having stayed up too late the night before, helped dad in the bow fill a bucket with blues!!

Marathon angler Cheryl arrived the night before with daughter Reney for FIREWORKS and ICE CREAM and then both joined in for some light tackle action!

Saturday- continued "warnings" of difficult fishing and lack of size to fish still had the Cock Robin faithful showing in numbers hoping the large fish would appear. Not only could we not find the big fish we couldn't even find the Pee Wee's despite having folks representing TEN STATES! (NJ, VT, NY, GA, PA, TN, CA, TX, NM and MO)

We looked to the north as far Sandy Hook only finding some dolphin shyly putting on a display before they too disappeared. Returning to the fleet we fished hard over readings but our day was the same as the rest.

Pictured below is the Daniels family who paid tribute to longtime Cock Robin fisherman Jimmy Daniels. CockRobin.com will have more on Jimmy in the upcoming days.
Thank You Eileen for sharing the day in Jimmy's memory with us.

Sunday- we licked our wounds and met August head on! With the staff and friends of the Gaf bar, 401 w 48th St, NY leading the way in the bow and the Quinn family, St Mary's, Pa and Hackettstown, NJ in the stern we were off to find the fish. Luck was upon us and a quick look to the north had birds and splishes (a splish is small splash made by a Pee Wee, WHERE ARE THE BIG BLUES?!) An all day hunt and jig fest had us no more than a mile off the beach and no further than Asbury Park. All the Pee Wee's you could want with jgs and teasers accounting for numerous double headers!

A "chance" meeting with the Golden Eagle had Captain Rich Falcone treating the crew of the Cock Robin to the BEST CHEESEBURGERS available on the water!!! THANK YOU Captain Rich and the galley staff of the Golden Eagle!! How Zagat's has not ranked this floating kitchen is beyond me!!

Monday- we weren't nervous at all....NOT. 7am had us holding with 3 customers and then a late rally allowed us to get out!! NICE!! Once again we broke the inlet with no more intel than the previous day so north we went looking for the birds. There we again found Pee Wee's chewing their way through piles of fast moving rainfish. Stealth was the order of the day and Capt Jim had us gliding into bait balls with Pee Wee's eager to take the jig. Once again we played the follow the birds to catch the fish game.

A late report of bigger blues to the north was heard on the way home, will tomorrow be the day?......
