Went offshore again this weekend and finally have something to report! Lines off at 130am we broke BI at 2am. The seas were gorgeous on the way out to our spot, and we were way early so we took our time at 20 knots. Hit our waypoint at 4am and moved around trying to find some readings to no avail. We set our spread out at abour 430am and started trolling.
After seeing fish break the surface and one of our other guys hook up, we pulled our lines and motored over to the spot and tried to jig them. Kenny had no readings so we set the spread back out and trolled over the area. The second the spread was out, the port short rigger goes off. (After being skunked the passed 3 trips, we were a bit unprofessional with this hookup
)
Kenny handed me the rod and told me to reel in my first Tuna. So I did. After he stuck him, a 60lb yellowfin hit the deck!
We kept working the same area and would see readings or fish breaking surface from time to time. We managed a small bluefin on a naked bally, and right after that a 30lb bluefin that found the box. Finally we managed to put another 30-40lb yellowin in the box as well.
The fish that found the box all hit on CR rainbow bars. We were slightly north of the mighty fleet which was spread out more than I thought they were going to be. We stopped on some pots in the glory to try for some mahi, but there was a boat hauling them and we couldnt find any.
Finally some fish to clean!! I hope they stay in this close!
