Sea Hawk weekend fluke recap 8/21-22
« on: August 23, 2010, 11:56:16 AM »
Saturday we started off in Ambrose with the fleet and had good action with a solid pick of keepers. Had quite a few seasick fares so headed back in to the bay for slower action and a slow pick of keepers.

Had a few with 3 keepers tying for high hook honors. Pool fish went 4lbs.

Sunday was better with solid action most of the day and a good pull of keepers. Once conditions got rough we headed back to the bay for a pick of keepers. High hook had 5 and pool fish went 4lb 1oz.

Saturday started out pretty good.  I fished a 2oz Spro almost all day.  Started out with the 6" Gulp grub on the bucktail and then the belly strip as well.  3" white Gulp shrimp on teaser.  Lots of shorts on both.  T was under the weather so grabbed her rod which had a solo 2oz Spro in pink tipped with 4" Gulp swim mullet in white.  First cast I hook into a decent fish and swing 20" fluke into boat.

Went back to my rod and stuck a 4" grub on the bucktail.  More shorts and 2 more decent keepers on that.  Tried bigger baits again and caught shorts. 5hrug
next fish was a 4lb blue on the teaser.  Swung it into boat and then dropper loop gave up.  Grabbed pliers and got my hook and shrimp back from the blue which I gave to another fare to take home.
Had alot of sea robins too.

Uncle managed 3 keepers on the bucktail too.  He's just started to bucktail and still learning the ropes but coming along nicely.

Was surprised so many onboard got sick.  Was a bit sporty but didn't think it was that bad...though we rocked one time and somehow my new Cabo got slammed by something which bent my handle. rgmn

Thanks for the report Capt Mike.  t^

Mickey, a lot of times it only take one to start the chumming and you will get several joining in the action.  ;D

Sorry to hear about the damaged handle. Luckily, it should be an easy replacement/repair.  t^
