October Fishing option
« on: August 31, 2010, 03:04:52 PM »
Hi guys,

If you had your pick, would you rather go on a  seabass trip or a bluefish trip in early October?

I have a wedding in Spring Lake, and we are looking for a guy's activity on Friday before the rehearsal dinner.  It will be about 18 guys, and most of them have never caught a thing in their life.  I have two boats in mind, one offers a seabass bottom trip and the other one is a bluefish trip.  Not looking to charter the whole boat out, and we would be using the boat's rental gear so that is a factor too.

We're not looking to keep many (or any) fish at all, so my main concern for these guys is helping them catch something.  I love the fight of a Blue and past reports last October look very promising, but I am worried that not everyone would be able to catch one.  Bottom fishing to me seems a little easier for a beginner, but we went out on a seabass trip a few summers ago out of Cape May and it was a total bust.

Sorry for being long winded, just wanted to see if you guys have an opinion and know of any boats in mind.  Thanks for your help.

go for the blues- more fun imo and you can always catch some stripers if the stars align

when the blues are bleeding and puking all over the deck- now THAT's fishin'

especially if you are looking for a good time and not looking to bring home meat

Thanks for everyone's input, looks like Blues are the way to go.  I think we are going to look into the Cock Robin since it is not too far from Spring Lake, hopefully the weather cooperates.  Thanks again, will post back if we go out

Blues are always fun for new anglers to catch... if you are looking into party boats, def. check before hand with the captain becasue 18 ppl is a big party.

I have been out on the Queen Mary for blues which is right next to the cock robin and recommend Capt. JB and his crew.  The seabass could be shut down by then anyway.

Capt JB runs a great boat, and Mark and Sean are great mates.  But nobody treats an NJSWF member better than the Bill (Reel Nauti) and the crew of the Cock Robin.  Plus they give NJSWF members a discount. t^
