Raritan Bay 9/23
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:23:22 PM »
John and myself out of Sayreville around 7:30 with a doz.shucked clams, some fresh bunker and gulp live eels, hit the open bay and put out the stretches and only picked 1 blue, continued trolling in the area and up when we spotted the birds working and started tossing the metal with steady action with the cocktail blues, drifted some bait in this area only picking blues.late in the morning hit Flynns Knoll and put out bunker chunks, clam and the eels on a drift, caught birds that were taking my gulp eels, also dogfish,we did manage 1 keeper seabass that took a bunker chunk.nice getting out on a beautiful day and having some action, water very calm today, bay early on was still, went to take a picture of it and batteries dead on the camera.water temps still warm at around 68 to 70 degrees.heard one boat on the VHF had some keep stripers fishing near a clam boat dredging.headed in a little after 1:30.got to get to bed, going out with friend in the morning at 5 to hit a wreck for seabass.   slt  Kez

Good report and effort Kez.....

The other day the bass were about 1/2 mile off the beach between the Sea Gulls Nest and the High Bridge, working rain fish......

When we came back in saw a large group of birds working in the Terminal Channel just out of the safety zone, didn't motor over there so don't know if it was bass, blues or a mix.....

we really didn't find large concentrations of birds working, the ones we did find were moving fast and would break up quick, constantly had our eyes looking for them.
