Some of this, some of that on the Irish Ayes
« on: September 25, 2010, 08:31:01 PM »
Had Johnny Oz, Andy, Peter and Dave on board today. Wanted to get out to the mud hole and try for falsies and bonito. Didn't make the venture due to the West wind. Did troll the inshore spots though.

First troll was at the lump directly outside SR inlet. Got our bonito there within five minutes. Had six other bangs on the clarks but no hook ups.

Travelled to the Shrewsbury Rocks and began our second troll from the inner to the outer buoys. Brought in five blue fish.

Moved to the Sandy Hook reef and anchored up on a rock pile near the Coleman Barge. NOTHING there.

Made our next move to Long Branch and anchored on a rock pile in twenty five feet of water. Brought in several keeper sea bass, many short sea bass, one keeper tog, a short tog, a silver eel, a keeper porgie and way too many bergalls.

Started making our way back to the inlet and while passing the Red Church saw a flock of birds working and headed over to them. Got to the birds and the depth finder screen lite up from top to bottom. Had the boys toss soft baits as there were balls and balls of rainfish on the surface. From there on it was steady catching. Hook up on every cast. We found where all the weakfish have been hiding. All except one were short fish though. Stayed on this school for over an hour with non-stop catching. Decided to call it quits and started on our way again.

Got near the inlet and saw another flock of birds hitting the water. Again, acres of weakfish under them. Played with them for about ten minutes and then made our way back to the dock.

All in all, not too bad of a day. Caugh a wide variety today, not many keepers, but we were kept busy all day.

Forgot to mention, also had six fluke which went back to bite another day.

Johnny Oz had pics on his camera. Don't know if he knows how to upload them though.  thud
