Wow! I wonder why they didn't use the epirb or pull all of the wires off the engine and hot wire it off the gen set.

I don't think they had one.  the early reports said they did..  but I don't think they did..

James McDade, of Groton, Conn., a Navy machinist who had returned from a tour of duty in Iraq in April and bought the boat in Delaware a short time later, called the harrowing experience of being adrift on the ocean and unable to make contact with rescuers scarier than anything he had experienced in the Middle East...makes me think they are 'new' owners of the boat and were unfamiliar with it's quirks and/or equipment.
