Left the maina at 4:30 pm and rounded the hook. No life to be seen so headed east. found birds working just past ambrosse right on the ny/nj border. Tons of splashes andd good marks on the bottom. Took a while to hook up. It was all schoolies. Not easy to jig but we got a bunch. sun just about down and got a call so headed to romers. Dropped anchor and clams and my buddy mike hooks up with a 31", couple minutes later a 35". I don't even have my bait in yet. Had to rerig. Slowed down after that with a pick here and there. Lots of shorts and a few blues. A couple right on the mark the are still swimming.. After the tide turned we headed over to the rips with 4 eels. Hard to drift threw with guys running over your lines and scaring the fish but one guy actually pushed another 35" our way. More blues and some run offs and that was it for the night. Mike 3 keepers. Me 0...LOL Always my luck. Still a great trip. Also watched another boat drive up on the beach. Third one for me in 3 years. Hope everybody is ok. Can't believe how everybody was cheering when it happened.
I would like to offer advise for guys fishing the rips. It would be way more productive to do your drift and then swing around via the channel to start the drift again. Go around the bouy (you know which one) and head to the beach. shut down engines, drift your bait , then swing around again in the channel. Driving right over someones eel in 15 foot of water does not produce hits. Just advise. Don't want to start anything.
