Fuel guage??
« on: July 13, 2007, 07:39:25 PM »
So my fuel guage was showing a little bit over half full.

81 gallon tank.

Puled up to gas dock to put in $100 @ 3.39.99 gallon.

Should have given me 30 gallons or so.

Stopped at $69. When it settled you could see the gas almost up to the top of the fill tube.

So, it seemed pretty full to me sicne I could see it and rocked the boat a bit to make sure it wasn't air locked.

Gas guage showed slightly over 3/4 tank.

Any ideas?

Fixable?

I was happier putting in 70- then 100 today and even happier burning less fuel then I think I have been, lol.

fuel sending gauges constantly go bad. spend a few extra bucks now and get a fuel management unit, like flowscan. will tell you exactly what you have burned, and will even tell you your current burn rate so you can adjust your rpms for best fuel economy.

I am familiar with flowscan (pops always had them).

if it is cheap enough, I may get one, but will have to see (what do they run and how hard is it to install?)

The flowscans don't tell you how much in the tank tho (not from what I recall anyway).

they wont tell you how much is in the tank, what you do is when you refuel, you hit the fill or whatever button and it will start to count down your total consumption.

you can shop around and get better prices. and you dont have to get floscan, they are the best though. like over the 4th weekend, boaters world had a fuel management gauge for 100 bucks.

same thing with the yama gauges, gotta shop around. found a place they where selling a complete 1 gauge kit for 350. also have found just the gauges for 150 or so.

im not sure if this is compatable, but I have a similar situation.  I run my tank to the point when the needle says empty, don't pass go, don't collect $200.00....  When i fill up, I usually have about 30 or so gallons to left in the tank when I think its completely empty.  I heard that its a safty device, meaning, it mentally forces you to put gas in the tank, but don't worry, you have 30 gallons left to spare, which should give you plenty of gas to get you to the pumps..

I am sure I can use the NMEA on my GPS and would only need a fuel flow sensor for my motr, not a whole setup with guage right?

depends on which gauge you have. if you have the fuel management gauge already then you would just need the sensor.

you need to find out which gauge you have.
