Graveling Point
« on: March 03, 2011, 12:10:06 PM »
Has anybody fished this area? If so any tips or pointers? Me and my buddy have a 16 foot skiff and looking to fish for some stripers this weekend (I know its early but what the hell nothing else to do!!) So if anybody has any tips on some good spots in the great bay, mullica river area I would greatly appreciate it
Thanks for all the help!
Kenny  TT^

I'll give you a BIG tip. Do not go to Scott's bait and tackle looking for bloodworms because he doesn't have any!!!! How can you offer a $100 prize and not have bait???  A big disappointment on his part!!! smk

Anyways, i'm sure someone will chime in. Good Luck out there...there's bass to be had t^

Fresh clams would probably be a good bet as well.

So far no one in my area are offering fresh anything yet.  Especially clams, it is to cold yet and the clammers are not going out so don't blame the B&T's.  Second I refuse to pay the prices they want for worms that are so small if you can find anyone that has them.

That is why this time of year is so hard to fish.  Get used to using artificials and you will never go back.  Except when the fresh baits like clams or small fish are running in the surf.

Happy Catching

Paul we did find a place with bloodworms (the chum bucket) of reasonable size and price for $10 per dozen. There were some nice thick ones in there.

HAHA  This reminds me.  I never cleaned out my bait freezer after last season.  I wonder what's hiding in there.  fcp :-X

Fished on the Norma K3 for cod on this past Sunday. They had sacks of fresh clams for us for cod fishing. The clammers are clamming but most shops aren't carrying them yet ,I guesss.

I'm not an expert on Gravelling but I wouldn't spend the money on bloodworms. No self respecting bass will pass up a big old clam. That said, I'd give the bait shops a break this time of year. Bait availability has tro be spotty this time of year.

Besides the possible availability issue.  Most places are not going to order a lot this time of year for fear of getting stuck with it.  Bloodworms are good for maybe a week and clams about three days max.

Not all that many guys fishing during the week right now.  You may see them stock up a little more for the weekend.

I haven't actually tried there yet, but I have friends that tell me that Gravelling Point is the FIRST place they go every year for spring stripers. I have done very well there in the past on weaks, and fluke.

I saw Bloods at $12 a dozen last year. Whew!! Chum Bucket is pretty good for bait.
Graveling is all clam beds. You'll see the clammers out there raking or scooping eventually.
With those hungry bass coming down the Mullica, I would have to think a nice fat hunk of fresh clam. Water temps need to come up first.
