naming a boat

my friend has a new boat...he wants to put a name on the boat...example "my boat"...must he register the NAME of the boat?? and if so, with who and where??? any help please

No.  There is no way to register the name of a boat.

if the boat is 5 net tons or more it is typically USCG Documented by name and lien info (if any.)
