3/30 NC Bluefins
« on: April 01, 2011, 04:41:15 PM »
We headed out Wednesday morning in relatively calm seas anticipating some wind in the afternoon.  As we expected the wind came on...

However, we managed to release a nice 60 pound bluefin after it hit a trolled  bait right off the bat.  Actually, Travis from Spinal Rods hadn't even engaged the drag on the 2nd bait we deployed before that fish hit the line.

We marked some fish here and there but only got on top of a huge pile one time.  We had 4 jig bites on that pile but only one came tight.  We pulled the hook on that one fish.

As the wind came on in the afternoon we continued to troll two baits while looking for piles of fish to jig on and had a few steady bites on the troll.  We pulled the hook on two really nice fish and finally boated one around 1:45pm.  It measured just over 71 inches and looked good in the cockpit.

There were a few whales on the grounds too!

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

Yea, that pic is awesome.  One of the guys on the trip took it and sent it to me.

It was a little sporty in the afternoon, about 3-5' and ESE winds at 25 knots.  it bumped up to 25 with an hour to go and it was behind us on the way home so it wasn't bad at all.

by 10pm it was over 12 feet at the diamond shoals bbouy  cfzd
